Senahasa has taken on responsibility for a Food Programme at UMV. It is partly
funded by the Sri Lankan Government which has a programme to feed
children in Grades 1-5 in poorer schools. However there is often
a timing issue with funds reaching the schools and so Senahasa provides
interim funds and leadership to ensure that the children are fed
everyday. Senahasa has also received funding from others to support
the Food Programme for children in Grades 6 - 13 who previously
had watched the younger children eat and go hungry themselves.
The programme has been a huge success - the children look healthier
and their grades have imoproved significantly.
